What are buildings?

In insurance, Buildings are defined as the property shown in your Insurance Schedule/Statement of Fact.

They include the structure of your home, including any:

  • Fixtures and fittings
  • Garden walls and gates
  • Decking, paths, drives and patios
  • Permanent swimming pools built of brick, stone or concrete
  • Permanently fixed hot tubs
  • Air/ground heat pump and solar panels
  • Permanent outbuildings
  • Hard tennis courts.
 
Unless otherwise agreed, outbuildings do not include:

  • Any building which is not on a permanent foundation or base
  • Structures that are designed to be open on any side, such as carports or gazebos
  • Tree houses
  • Inflatable buildings (whether over swimming pools or not)
  • Any structure which is made of canvas, PVC or any other non-rigid material
  • Land or things in your garden such as flowerbeds, hedges, lawns (or artificial lawns), natural ponds or pools, plants, shrubs or trees
  • Anything used for trade purposes
