Are you planning on buying a new set of wheels in this year? Just imagine if money was no object, what would be the new car of your dreams?

Here are five of the most exciting and innovative new cars* coming in 2022 that might fit the bill.

Lamborghini Countach

Looking at a picture of this new super-car (shown in the image at the top of this article), at first glance you might think it was a classic Lambo from the 1980s.

But instead, Lamborghini has revived the famous Countach name - as well as its iconic look, and updated it for 2022 - for a limited range of just retro-inspired 112 cars[1]

The model “imagines how the iconic Countach of the 70s and 80s might have evolved into an elite super sports model of this decade”, Automobili Lamborghini President and CEO Stephan Winkelmann explained at the car’s unveiling in August[2].

Sadly, this one may be out of reach even if you had a dream budget, as all 112 models have already been snapped up - at a price range starting from $2.64 million.

Ferrari 296 GTB

Next up in the 2022 dream car launches is the Ferrari 296 GTB, which is a plug-in hybrid; although you’ll only be able to cover 15 miles of electric-only driving[3].

The new car will be powered by a V6 engine, which as devoted Ferrari fans will know, makes it the first Ferrari to do so since the Dino 246 GT of 1974.

This new model can go from 0-62mph in 2.9 seconds and hit a top speed of 205mph.

It will start being delivered in European markets in the first few months of 2022, with prices starting from €269,000 (£231,000) in Italy[4].

Aston Martin DBX Coupé

For some car-lovers, the British luxury brand Aston Martin is the epitome of luxury and good taste.

Often associated with 007, Aston Martin has recently branched out into SUVs, with its DBX model[5]

Also this year, a range of DBX variants are on their way, which are expected to include a sportier looking model, the DBX Coupé.

This new car is also expected to be available as a plug-in hybrid.

Ineos Grenadier

Now, this won’t be everyone’s idea of a dream car. But if you’re less into slick Italian supercars and more into rugged off-roading, then the Ineos Grenadier could be the dream car for you.

The Ineos Grenadier is so called because it is being built by British chemicals company Ineos and was dreamt up by its CEO Sir Jim Ratcliffe in The Grenadier pub in London[6]

Available initially with petrol or diesel engines, it will be launched in 2022, and is expected to be priced from around £48,000 for a two-seater version[7].

Ferrari Purosangue

All of the luxury car brands seem to be heading into the SUV space - even Ferrari.

This year, it is due to launch its first SUV, which it is developing under the codename Purosangue, or ‘thoroughbred’.

Carwow has created some images of how it expects this new Ferrari to look, and the expected price tag is in the region of at least £200,000[8].

Tesla Model Y

And, of course we couldn’t miss out Tesla. The Tesla Model Y could be a dream car for anyone who wants an electric SUV but suffers from acute ‘range anxiety’ - the fear of running out of power on a journey and not being able to find a charging point.

After all, the ‘Long Range’ version of this full-electric mid-sized SUV will offer 315 miles of range[9]. The Long Range is one of an initial three versions of the Model Y to be produced, alongside the Dual Motor and Performance models.

First deliveries in the UK are expected early this year, with a price tag of around £35,000.
