Has the cold weather caused damage to your home?

We've outlined the steps you should take if you need to check for damage or make a claim.

Step one

What do you need to consider when faced with damaged pipes caused by freezing?

  1. Turn off the main water supply for your home to prevent further damage. The stopcock is usually located under your kitchen sink or outside your home.
  2. If the leak occurs near any electrical items, carefully switch these off at the mains and move any items out of water damaged areas.
  3. Contact us as soon as you can to report your claim.
  4. Call a plumber to fix the leak.

Remember if you have Home Emergency cover with us, or another provider this should be your first point of contact.

Step TWO

What to expect wh
en you make a claim

Once we have approved your claim, in most cases either one of our assigned suppliers or claims handlers will make a cash settlement offer so that you can use a tradesman of your own choice.

If the water damage is severe, we may arrange further assistance for you to help complete the drying process and repair the damage. If the damage is substantial, we will get an expert to manage your claim on our behalf and they will talk you through the next course of action.

If the level of damage means that you must leave the property, we can help you make those arrangements, whether you stay with relatives or in alternative accommodation, we will help find the best solution for you.

Water damaged contents may need replacing or restoring, we will let you know how we can help with those too - but please remember not to throw these damaged items away until until we let you know its ok to do so.
