Our past, present and future

We’re part of an international group and can trace our roots back to 1824. That’s almost 200 years’ experience in insurance, and we’ve been protecting customers in the UK since 1939. In 2003, we launched our first independent brand, Rias, which has won a coveted five-star rating from industry experts, Defaqto, for the fifth year running.

Ageas UK has grown by building partnerships with other trusted and high-profile organisations, large and small. They share our values and want to make life easy and straightforward for customers. 

  • We joined forces with Age UK in 2005, to provide insurance for people in later life
  • In 2008, we started to work with John Lewis Insurance, a partnership that continues to this day, safeguarding hundreds of thousands of people across the UK
  • In 2009, we partnered with Tesco Bank to create Tesco Underwriting and joined with General Motors in 2011 to protect their customers and their property
  • In 2016, launched Back Me Up - Get Backed Up with flexible, app-based insurance: www.backmeup.co.uk

We continue to add to our services to help more customers protect the places and possessions that matter most to them. We’re committed to innovation, too, and recently launched Ageas elastic – home insurance you can control, with a rolling monthly contract.
