What is home legal expenses cover?

Ageas Home Legal Expenses, provided by RAC is is optional cover that provides legal support and advice for a wide range of incidents.

This cover provides up to £100,000 of cover for legal costs and can offer you peace of mind knowing you can get support to help resolve a wide range of issues.

As part of your Home Insurance policy you also have access to a 24 hour, 365 days a year legal helpline, provided by RAC.

What is covered?

  • Property disputes - a dispute with neighbours regarding boundaries, trespassing on your property, or related damage or nuisance
  • Personal injury - to seek compensation for personal injury from an accident (but not a road traffic accident involving a vehicle owned or driven by you) that was caused by the fault or negligence of a third party
  • Contract disputes - a dispute with any goods or services which you have taken out a contract for, for example if you have had a new kitchen installed unsatisfactorily, or have purchased a faulty sofa
  • Employment disputes - a dispute with your employer, for example, unpaid wages or unfair dismissal from work
  • Clinical negligence - to seek compensation for clinical negligence which caused you harm (wrong medication or treatment given, for example)
  • Motor prosecution defence - to dispute a motoring offence, for example a speeding fine that you believe to be incorrect
  • Tax investigations - to respond to a full enquiry into your personal income tax position from HM Revenue & Customs.


Cover applies to you and all family members permanently living with you.

What is not covered

  • Claims where there's less than a 51% chance of success
  • Any costs that haven't been agreed in advance
  • Any claim relating to the rent, service and maintenance charges or renewal of a tenancy agreement
  • A claim for stress, psychological or emotional injury unless it arises from a physical injury.
