Three things to know about SEAT

  • SEAT started out as ‘SIAT’ in the 1940s, as an attempt by Spanish authorities and banks to get the country’s automotive sector off the ground. This ultimately failed, but the project was revived in 1950 with the support of Italian manufacturer Fiat*.
  • In 1986, SEAT became part of the Volkswagen Group and has remained so ever since. That’s why many SEAT models share some of their architecture with Audi and Volkswagen cars today^.
  •  The SEAT Ibiza is the marque’s most popular ever, with more than four million units sold to date**.

Tax bands and insurance groups for SEAT

When providing you with a quote for car insurance, insurers will look at information about yourself and your vehicle in order to calculate a premium that’s suitable for your circumstances. One factor that insurance providers may look at is the insurance group of the car you’d like covered. These are bandings running from 1-50, whereby the number reflects the costs and risks associated with the particular model of car you drive. This helps insurers to estimate the scale of any potential claims, and may therefore impact your premium.

There’s also a banding system in use when it comes to paying tax on your new vehicle, but only in the first year it’s registered. How much you’ll pay for your Vehicle Excise Duty in the first year will be based upon your model’s observed CO2 emissions.

Tax bands and insurance groups for top SEAT models include:
