About the BMW 1 Series

  • The first generation BMW 1 Series features a range of body types, including hatchback, coupe and convertible styles.
  • Later generations feature only the hatchback style, with coupe and convertible variants rebadged as BMW’s 2 series.
  • The latest iteration of the model features five engine options, ranging from the base 116d through to the powerful M 135i X Drive.

Insurance groups and tax bands

When working out a fair premium for your policy, insurers assess the information you’ve provided and use it to calculate your level of risk. 

Things commonly taken into account include your age and where you live, while your car’s insurance group may also be considered by some providers. Insurance groups are bands from 1-50 that indicate the cost of parts and repairs associated with a given model, and when they’re considered, cars in higher bands will often cost more to insure. Another banding system to be aware of is that used to calculate the road tax you need to pay. Also known as Vehicle Excise Duty (VED), this tax is charged in accordance with your car’s CO2 emissions, with the most polluting vehicles having to pay more.
