Our Christmas playlist to see you through the festive season

To help you on your way to a very merry Christmas, we’ve compiled our best tips for easily creating a smash-hit playlist, as well as 20 fantastic, festive songs to get you in the holiday spirit.

1. Pick a good number of songs

People have been singing songs at Christmas since time immemorial, so you’ll have plenty of options to choose from, but don’t go overboard. An overly long playlist will be filled with songs that you might never get around to listening to.

2. Mix up the artists and genres

A good playlist keeps people entertained with variety, so even if your favourite artist has put out a great Christmas album, you should probably avoid dumping all the songs on to your playlist. Pick your favourites and then move on and add something else.

3. Stick to feel-good tunes

Some variety of genre will keep things interesting and enjoyable, but let's avoid any doom and gloom. Most Christmas songs are pretty uplifting, but if there are any that you know annoy you, make sure to keep them off the list!

4. Let everyone pick a song

If you’re putting together a playlist for a family trip, invite your fellow travellers to add a couple songs to the playlist. Everybody will be a lot happier with the music if they’ve had some choice in it.

5. Pick something new!

Music streaming services like Spotify and iTunes make it easier than ever to discover new music. A playlist is the perfect place to slip in something unknown. You can easily skip over a tune if you end up disliking it, but you might just find a new festive favourite.
