Recruitment support to be offered, with more than 1,800 relevant role opportunities already identified in the local area
Ageas UK has today informed employees working at its Uddingston office in Lanarkshire that it will close the site from 31 March 2017. In his address to the workforce, Ant Middle, CEO Ageas Direct & Partnerships, also confirmed that conversations with third parties have led to a significant number of job opportunities for our employees in the local area.
Following a comprehensive 45-day consultation with employees, which included one-to-one meetings and consultation with their representatives, Ageas confirmed that no alternative options were received. Although engagement with Scottish Enterprise and North Lanarkshire Council had led to interest in the site and people from third parties, none of this developed into workable proposals.
Ant Middle, CEO Ageas Direct & Partnerships, said: “It’s with regret that we have decided to close our Uddingston office and we know our employees will be disappointed with this news. However, after talks with third parties, around 40 contact centre-based organisations have expressed strong interest in our workforce, with more than 1,800 relevant role opportunities being identified so far. This not only evidences what we already know – that we have capable, skilled and experienced people – but also that there are many good opportunities in the local area. We will do all we can to support our people in securing alternative roles.”
Ageas is now focused on helping employees with their next steps. The business has invited the government-backed service Partnership Action for Continuing Employment (PACE) to its Uddingston site to provide employees with advice on dealing with redundancy and finding alternative employment. This will be supplemented with support from Penna outplacement services. Ageas is also setting up onsite recruitment fairs with local businesses, including those that have already expressed an interest in the workforce, to allow employees the opportunity to discuss the roles available.
Middle continued: “I know this has been a difficult and unsettling time for all of our employees and I want to thank each of them for their professionalism throughout the process. I hope that the additional services we are providing will prove valuable.
