Emma Compton said: “I chose Piam Brown because of a very close friend of mine whose little boy was diagnosed when he was 18 months old with a type of cancer called Neuroblastoma. The care and support they received from Piam Brown staff whilst he was battling the disease was amazing, and even though he passed away after an 18 month battle, the staff have continued to be incredibly supportive to my friend and her family.”
Lyn Nicholls, HR Director, Ageas commented: “We are delighted to support Piam Brown Ward with this £5,000 donation and I am pleased we can help the organisation deliver its services in the local area. We continue to support local charities as part of our Foundation programme, which also enables our employees to feel like we’re supporting something close to home. This continues to confirm our commitment to the communities we are a part of.”
The Piam Brown Ward is a ten bed inpatient facility based in Southampton General Hospital, providing treatments and support services both for resident and day care patients. The children, aged from birth to 16 years of age, are all suffering from childhood cancer or a life-threatening haematological condition.
The charity also provides support to children’s families, spending raised funds to resource a playroom, school room, two bone marrow transplant rooms and a Macmillian nursing team besides financing many invaluable “Days Out” which provide a welcome break from the hospital routine.
Jane Buchanan, Charity Fund Manager & Events Coordinator on Piam Brown Ward said: “We are absolutely delighted to have been nominated as Ageas’s chosen charity for 2011 and we look forward to working alongside them in the coming months.”
In addition, Ageas is donating time to other Eastleigh community projects including: Surrey Court residential home for the elderly. Over 2010 Ageas has donated £40,000 to local charities in the Eastleigh and Gloucester regions.
